This is always my favorite theme of American Idol. Motown week is always great but this week even greater. Both the King of Motown Smokey Robinson and the Founder of Motown Berry Gordy appeared on the show. Smokey Robinson was the mentor this week, how great is that? I say extremely great since he's one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Matt Giraud - "Let's Get It On" He did very well, I enjoyed him for the first time this season. He started out at the Piano and then took to the stage. Matt wowed me with his strong powerful falsetto.

Kris Allen - "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" - He wasn't terrible but he was very boring. He has no stage presence and uses his guitar as a security blanket.

Scott MacIntyre - "You Can't Hurry Love" Wait? Hold up wait a minute! Why is the guy with the creepy eyes and the boring voice going to take on a Diana Ross song. I have no problem with guys singing girl songs but this just doesn't fit.

Megan Joy - "For Once In My Life" This was a train wreck and I have no idea why she is still in the competition. Her version of this classic Motown gem made my stomach actually hurt.

Anoop Desai - "Ooh Baby Baby" Anoop Dogg was amazing. His falsetto was sweet not near as strong as Matt but it was sweet. Anoop has straight soul and he did Smokey Robinson proud. I didn't hear a bad note from him. It was a perfect performance.

Michael Sarver - "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" I'll be honest he is my least favorite contestant. He's shaped like a square, can't sing and talks back to the judges. He proved why I have good reason to not like him. He was so bad it was worse than Karaoke (maybe because I wasn't drunk)! He was so bad that I could do nothing but laugh at this large guy pointing, screaming and growling. Yes he did growl! Wasn't sure if this was a singing contest or a dog show. Michael also has one of the worse falsetto's I've ever heard.

Lil Rounds - "Heat Wave" Wow that's a boring choice from my favorite girl. I was hoping for something different from Lil Rounds and something much slower. Both Kimberly Locke and Jennifer Hudson had already sang this song on the show. Out of all the many hits of Motown Lil Rounds came up with this? She was solid but it wasn't anything special especially not after having Jennifer Hudson version stuck in my head. Lil Rounds started the song too high and it was really nothing to build up to. Therefore when it got to the "Yeah, Yeah!" it wasn't really anything special. It was as if she wanted to sing the Jennifer Hudson version yet she just lacked the range that the amazing Jennifer Hudson has. However, it was a solid performance because overall Lil has a great voice!

Adam Lambert - "The Tracks of My Tears" This guy is weird and he slightly scares me but he does what he does and he did whatever he does. That didn't make any damn sense but if you are a regular Idol watcher you know that describes what he does. His vocals were nice and he has a nice rocker falsetto. It's far from a soul falsetto of a Smokey Robinson, Eddie Kendricks of even David Ruffins but it worked out. He changed his look up a little bit. Instead of looking like a broadway star acting like a rocker, he looked liked Elvis dressed up like a gay Frank Sinatra.

Danny Gokey - "Get Ready" I knew this was a hard song choice. Not sure why he went with this and I wish he would have slowed it down just a bit. He has a great voice if it rough like David Ruffins but he was no David Ruffin. He wasn't his normal self and the dance move was just odd. Solid but it wasn't great and very forgetable.

Allison Iraheta - "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" She's only 16 with pipes like an aged rocker. Too bad she sounded more like a 16 year old on this song. The song was just too powerful and deep. She didn't sound near as powerful as she usually does. Dennis Edward original version truly hits you in the depths of your soul. Allison didn't come close to even being soulful. However, she saved herself by hitting a Idol glory note. The last note reminded me of Christina Aguelera and that proved why she should still be in the running to be the next American Idol.

Overall the top performances were: Adamn Lambert and Anoop Desai, two that has been the black sheep of the contest. Lil Rounds and Danny Gokey the front runners of the contest from the beginning wasn't on top of their game but still put in solid performances.

The Bottom: Both Michael Sarver and Megan Joy were awful. I'm thinking it is between these two that goes home and Kris could possibly be in the bottom three as well. I say Michael Sarver will go home but wouldn't be surprise if Megan Joy goes home since every note she hit was off key and flat.

  1. the phrase "the wrong song" should be forbidden, it's such a cop-out answer seriously. all the judges have to say is "Sorry, you fail because..." (thank you Simon for being the only original one)

  2. Sometimes they do pick the wrong songs but I agree, I think they just need to tell them that they didn't sing the song well.

Like Lil Rounds - It wasn't the greatest song pick but if she would have build it up instead of coming out like she was Chaka Khan it would would have went much better.
