MORNING CUP OF SOUL - SAM COOKE - YOU SEND ME [VIDEO]

Sam Cooke was one of the first people to go from a career singing Gospel to the secular world. He was a huge inspiration to The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.

Sam Cooke knew exactly how much to put into a song. His riffs are never overdone but just perfect and his singing style can never be duplicated. Sam was the man: women wanted to be with him and men wanted to be him.

Mostly known now for his huge hit and hard singing political song "A Change Is Gonna Come". Sam Cooke was one of the most successful singers of his day. "You Send Me" is his first "secular" song and it was an instant hit. Sam was not only a singer but a songwriter/publisher/record label owner, in his day the late 50's and early 60's that was unheard of and hell it's still rare!

Oh yeah and Sam Cook is a fellow southside of Chicagoan! Woot! Woot!

  1. As a fellow Chicagoan born and raised on the South Side, I thank you for giving Sam his props. He was truly a unique artist, and it's good to see others who recognize that.
