The Wiz - Rehearsal with Ashanti

Here is R&B singer Ashanti rehearsing for the off-Broadway play "The Wiz". Ashanti is Dorothy and the lady you see in the begging is Tony award winner LaChanze as Glenda the good witch. Ashanti has already played Dorothy on the Muppets Wizard of Oz. However as you may know "The Wiz" is much more soulful.


The Next Video is Ashanti singing the legendary song "Home" which Stephanie Mills made famous with her award winning portrayal of Dorothy from The Wiz. Ashanti doesn't have near the power of Stephanie Mills but it is such a well crafted song. I'm guessing after some vocal classes Ashanti will sing this better on stage. You don't have to have the power though because Diana Ross portrayed Dorothy on the film version.
