Top 25 Great Love R&B/Soul Songs

I have to say that this is one of the hardest lists I’ve ever come up with. It combines both old school Soul and contemporary R&B to make up the Top 25 Great Soul/R&B Love Songs.

First let me tell you of the rules before you read the list and ask how “I Will Always Love You” did not make the list? “I Will Always Love You” is a powerful song but I consider it a breakup song or even possible a funeral song. Listen to the lyrics or pull up the lyrics. It’s about someone that is going away and they will always love you. I wanted to focus on a more romantic love and not just songs about having sex ( R Kelly “Seems Like Your Ready” & Johnny Gill “My, My, My” are examples). I judged on both lyrical content and performance. Since I judged on performance the performer is named and not the writers of the song or even the original performer of the song.

I love comments on this blog and especially on blogs like this. Please let me hear you! Do you agree? Do you think I’m a very stupid person for not including one of your favorite singers or songs that you danced to at your wedding? Let me hear you and tell me what number you think that song should be on the list. Who would you remove in order for your pick that I didn’t mention to be on there.
