Maya Still Rises

I was introduced to Maya Angelou’s work when I was in 8th grade by a student teacher by the name of Mr. Willis.  The first poem I ever read was “Still I Rise”.  I was captivated by that poem and I still have the original print from 8th grade that the teacher passed to the class.  I was introduced to other works by African-American writers but Maya struck something within me.

I won’t say that she inspired me to write because I always had the passion even before my introduction to her.  However, she through her work served as inspiration to me; to dig a little deeper and reach that plateau of understanding from the reader.

I was saddened to learn of her passing but I know that Maya still rises.  For her body of work will still serve as inspiration to others.  It is my belief that Maya has reached another plateau.  The plateau of heaven and you can’t rise any higher than that.  Maya still rises.

Mariah Carey - Me. I Am Mariah - Full Album Review

I decided to do a song by song review of "Me. I Am Mariah". In short this album reminds me of mid 90's Mariah. Classic pop ballads, a bit of R&B, Gospel influenced vocals and Mariah meets hip-hop. Mariah is in excellent voice on this album.

Cry – Gospel influenced ballad. Mariah is in very good voice. I haven’t heard her sound this solid since “Fly Like A Bird”.

Morning Cup of Soul: Joss Stone - I Had A Dream [LIVE]

This is Joss Stone performing live one of my favorite songs from her first album "The Soul Sessions".  When Joss Stone hit the music scene in 2003, I just knew that music was changing for the better and Joss was going to be a huge international star.

Unfortunately I was incorrect on both. Music got worse and Beyonce solo career happened. Joss Stone is still making good music though and that is a plus!

Here is Joss Stone singing the tender ballad "I Had A Dream"

Just Talking Music: Stairway to Heaven & The Boss

As a teenager I worked at a Summer Camp. I remember talking to my fellow co-workers about music. We all agreed that “Stairway to Heaven” was a great song.  We also agreed who doesn’t have respect for “The Boss”. We loved our parent’s generation of music.

As we continued to talk and get deeper into how “Stairway to Heaven” was really a great song, we all slowly realize that we were talking about two different songs.  All of my fellow camp counselors who were white had no idea who The O’Jay’s were and I wasn’t talking about Led Zepplin.  I only heard Led Zepplin’s “Stairway to Heaven” maybe once or twice and they had never even heard of The O’Jays.

After our shock that we were speaking about two different songs by two different artists, we also realize that “The Boss” wasn’t the same either.  In my house “The Boss” refers to Diana Ross. You probably guessed by now they were talking about Bruce Springsteen.

Led Zepplin – Stairway to Heaven was released in 1971
The O’Jays – Stairway to Heaven was released in 1975
Bruce Springsteen is known as “The Boss”
Diana Ross – The Boss was released in 1979

After all the years I can appreciate Led Zepplin’s “Stairway to Heaven” but when I say “Stairway to Heaven” I’m still talking about The O’Jays song.  I still rarely listen to Bruce Springsteen because he sounds a lot like Cher or Cher sounds like Bruce Springsteen. When I speak about “The Boss” I’m talking about Diana Ross.

Michael Jackson Featuring Justin Timberlake - Love Never Felt So Good

Here is a remix to Michael Jackson "Love Never So Good" featuring Justin Timberlake. I hate to say it but I like this remix even better than the original with just Michael Jackson on it. I love the music it's more up beat and feel more like a modern MJ song. I'm not a huge Justin Timberlake fan but I really like him on this song with the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Tell me what do you think?

Phaedra Parks Reads Kenya Moore - Greatest Read of Reality TV Show History?

I have never seen a episode of the Real House Wives but I have viewed many reality tv shows. Can we dare say that this is the greatest read in reality tv history? I think this is up for consideration! Almost a 2 minute long read with Kenya Moore not saying anything in response.

I don't really know the drama but I know that Phaedra Parks read Kenya Moore like she was reading a juicy book! lol Check it out for youself!

New Single From Michael Jackson - Love Never Felt So Good

I can't tell you how weird that was writing "New Single From Michael Jackson". It's something I didn't think I would ever write again but here it is. The Michael Jackson Estate is planning on releasing a new album of Michael Jackson tunes. Here it is "Love Never Felt So Good" from the album Xscape which is produced by L.A. Reid who is currently the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Epic Records.

It sounds like a great summer record. It really makes you feel good.
