Whitney croons her way through this instead of belting it out. This song is jazzy and absolute beautiful. This song and arrangement really takes advantage of her once in a lifetime vocal tone.

afreshmusichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03646253064442985464noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8131958754161392567.post-79360246732580737012020-06-20T10:47:00.001-05:002020-06-20T10:47:36.527-05:00Morning Cup of Soul - Aretha Franklin - Never Gonna Break My Faith [NEW]I thought when was the best time for me to appear again. I think returning with a new release from the late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, Her Royal Highness is as good as anything.

This song was previously released for the film Bobby as a duet with Queen of Hip-Hop and Soul Mary J. There have been rumors longer before this latest one that Aretha and Dionne did not get along. They have both covered each other songs; Dionne Warwick covered Do Right Woman, Do Right Man on a 1969 album and Aretha had a hit with I Say A Little Prayer in 1968. Dionne aunt Cissy Houston was a background vocalist for Aretha Franklin for many years. Both Aretha and Dionne are two of the most successful Soul artists of the 1960’s.

Fast-Ford to 2017 and these two ladies just aren’t getting along. Apparently, Aretha felt slighted by Dionne Warwick five years ago at Whitney Houston’s funeral. Long ago it was said that Aretha was Whitney’s God Mother but that wasn’t true because Darlene Love is actually Whitney’s God Mother. However, for marketing purposes when Whitney was getting started in her career, they decided to add that little note. As if being related to Cissy Houston, Dee Dee Warwick, and Dionne Warwick wasn’t enough!

How so? My blackness is not defined by afro’s, wide noses, or food. Think about it, really think about it. To justify her blackness (which was never needed, everybody knew but maybe she forgot) she used some basic stereotypes. She’s a down sista because she carries hot sauce in her purse?

I live each day of my life as a black man and I never feel the need to prove my blackness. I am black just like I am a man. It’s all natural baby! I don’t care for spicy food, chitterlings are absolutely disgusting, and I don’t like grits but I’m still black. How offended would you be if a white artist said they carry hot sauce in their purse therefore they can relate to your blackness? Black Twitter would be all over that, calling for Rev. Al Sharpton, Minister Farrakhan, and Rev. Jesse Jackson. Black folks would be invoking the names of Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X. Calling on Walmart, Target, and K Mart to stop selling their music.
There is nothing like Soulful Christmas music. It's not Christmas for me until I hear The Temptations sing Silent Night.

www.thebuppielife.com

Buppie - A young Black (African-American), urban professional. People that has never heard the term Buppie before usually say “What?” with a tilted head. I go on and explain what a Buppie means both the traditional use of the word and my take on the term. It is a way for identifying a successful black professional. Being a Buppie is a mindset.

I wanted an outlet to write more about my life, the Buppie life. There are many lifestyle blogs but I have not found any up to date blogs on our lifestyle. Buppies are well educated and have economic power.
This website will focus on but will not be limited to:
*Careers
*Education
*Products
*Music & Entertainment
*Philanthropy
*Politics
*Religion

I hope to shine the spotlight weekly on Black businesses and Buppies that are making a move in the professional realm.

If this is your introduction to the term Buppie, you may be asking yourself besides being Black what is the difference between Buppie and Yuppie? Being a Buppie is a unique experience from being a Yuppie. The big difference is being Black. A Black person experiences in the professional realm and especially life is much different than someone who is White. It’s all about the experience.afreshmusichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03646253064442985464noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8131958754161392567.post-18092572304557627322015-05-15T16:16:00.001-05:002015-05-15T16:16:52.614-05:00King of Blues, BB King dead at the age of 89

As you may know, B.B. King has died. The Fresh Music Page doesn’t cover much Blues music, but BB King is a rightful King of Blues. Gospel music often gets its respect for being a forefront for R&B but let’s remember that R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues and the art form of Blues has influenced both R&B, Gospel, and Rock. It is one of the true American Art Forms.

After one listen to Aretha Franklin’s newest album (Aretha Franklin
Sings the Great Diva Classics) you realize why she’s the Queen. Actually maybe
you won’t if this is your first introduction to her. If you know Aretha from her 60s and 70s hits
than you know, what I know, and the world knows. Aretha Franklin is the Queen
of Soul and she does whatever she wants. You can hear her confidence in each
song. You feel that she left a piece of her Soul and it sticks with you.

Many people have stated that Aretha Franklin sounds old now.
Well, my friends at the age of 72, Aretha Franklin is old. I don’t care in what
profession she was in (if she wasn't in music), she would be considered old. It makes this collection of
10 classics even more special. Aretha Franklin is doing what God made her to
do. She’s singing her heart out and stirring souls. From her jazzy riffs to her
Gospel squalls. This is not a legend simply working but a legend working it!

Only Aretha Franklin would have enough heart and voice to
even attempt 10 songs that were already huge hits for other artists. All are
signature songs for other artists. Can you imagine Rihanna, Taylor Swift or even
Beyonce doing something so out there? Both “I’m Every Woman” and “Nothing
Compares 2 U” have already been huge hits for two other artists. I love the nod
to Whitney she tossed while starting the song with the Whitney arrangement and
then throwing in her own signature song “Respect".

The stand out track is “Nothing Compares 2 U” The Prince
written Sinead O’Connor megahit. What
Aretha and producer Andrea 2000 came up with was legendary in itself. They went
big band and it is the most organic soulful song on the entire album. The
blaring horns and the kickass piano is just amazing!

This is easily Aretha’s best albums since 1998’s “A Rose Is
Still A Rose”. As the title said: Aretha still sits on her throne.

Other interesting readings: Aretha's classic reading of "Teach Me Tonight" which returned her back to her Columbia years where she recorded an entire album dedicated to one of her favorite singers; Dinah Washington, "No One" shows off her one of a kind riffs and runs. "I Will Survive" and "Midnight Train to Georgia just shows you she will always do a song her way which is breaking all the rules and creating something new.

This is one of the few songs that exist that shows Jennifer's greatness as a Soul singer.

The song isn't about showcasing her vocals but it shows her SOUL and that makes a soul song. After listening to "Moan" you feel like she left a piece of her Soul on the song and it stays with you.

I get what Clive Davis is trying to do by leaving the album on the upbeat/dance track side but one day somebody has to realize that is not Jennifer's strength. Like Aretha and Mary J. Blige, Jennifer's strength is sharing the feeling of hurt and overcoming the hurt. Until Jennifer and the music executives realize and tap into that, I don't expect Jennifer to have a big recording career.

Hopefully "Moan" will make them realize her strength as oppose to having her sing some bubblegum type of music that anybody with auto-tunes could record.

As protesters protest for freedom in Ferguson, Mo, I feel that this Nina Simone song is perfect for the Morning Cup of Soul. She is longing for the same freedom in 1967 that people in 2014 are longing for.
a police officer. Questions were raised and the Ferguson,

answers. What exactly was the incident that left a 17 year old teenager shot in
the back and dead in the middle of the street? Was this another incident of a
boy simply being black?

The information that I have gathered is that Mike Brown was
walking in the street with a friend. The police officer demanded that he “Get
the fuck on the sidewalk”. The teen did not move fast enough for the officer
and the officer never getting out of his car grabbed the young man. The officer
proceeded to put the teen into a choke hold while the teen tried to free his self.
The teens friend ran for his life as this the police officer started to fire
shots at Mike Brown. After shots were fired, Mike Brown also begun to run and
the officer shot the unarmed teen in the back. The teen lifted his hands and
yelled that he was unarmed and not to shoot again. The police officer shot the
young man again and a body lay in the middle of the street for hours. From
audio records that were released by the hacktivist group “Anonymous”, you could
hear that the officer called for crowd control first. From the audio that I
heard the still unnamed officer did not call for ambulance or even state that
there had been a shooting but he called for crowd control.

I love the different spin she puts on this #1 hit from the great Minnie. Don't expect those signature high notes that Minnie gives you. Not many people can go that high even Mariah Carey is having difficulty hitting those whistle notes these days.

Towards the end of the song Dianne Reeves does give a shot at that note. She does a beautiful job at scatting through out the song, adding that different element.
Sam Cooke was fatally shot at the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles, Ca. Apparently Cooke was intoxicated and distressed when he approached the manger of the hotel and the manager shot him in self-defense.

Sam Cooke is best known for hits "You Send Me", "Cupid" and "Twistin' The Night Away".

BET Sunday’s Best contestant calls Gospel singer Kim Burrell
out for being rude and disrespectful. I say it’s about time that someone called
Kim Burrell out for being rude and disrespectful. This is not the first time
that Kim has been rude to a contestant. The rudeness of Kim Burrell is why I
don’t even watch the show.

Let me be very honest, I have always considered Kim Burrell
to be an overrated singer. Every line she sings is a run or riff. While praised
by a lot of R&B artists, her style of singing is nothing but a Beyonce on
steroids singing Gospel.

The young man Dennis Brigham was not a horrible singer and I
don’t think his performance warranted the laughter from Ms. Burrell that he
received. However, as you can see from the clip, he got her together real quick
