Demetrius was influenced heavily by his parents and their love for music. His mother taught him about the smooth grooves of Smokey Robinson, The Emotions and Chaka Khan. While his father taught him to appreciate Rock, Blues and Funk.
While in elementary school when his peers were listening to the Spice Girls. Demetrius was enjoying the sounds of Teena Marie and Aretha Franklin's groundbreaking "Amazing Grace" album.
Growing up in Chicago gave Demetrius the opportunity to hear legendary radio hall of fame Disc Jockey Herb Kent every Saturday and Sunday morning. Learning more about Soul music.
Demetrius is not only interested in the music of yesterday but the music of today also. Many people think that Soul music/R&B is dead but it just lives underground and occasionally comes up for air. Jazmine Sullivan, Maxwell, Musiq, India.Arie and Chrisette Michele are examples of Soul music in Pop culture. While Van Hunt, Ledisi, Javier, Rahsaan DeVaughn and Goapele are examples of the music that's underground.
